Sasol Germany's Brunsbüttel Plant is located 80 km northwest of
Hamburg, close to the Kiel Canal which links the Baltic Sea to the River Elbe.
The emphasis is on support for olefins and
surfactants through operations at the Brunsbüttel
production facility. The Ziegler process is applied
to produce alcohols and alumina. Research is
directed at:
- Development of new product and processes to
add value to the existing alcohol portfolio
- Development of new applications for existing
and new alcohols or derivatives thereof
- Development of novel alumina derived products
for application in various industries
- Assistance in the improvement of new and
existing processes
Customer support and application research are
integral to R&D and play an important role in the
development of applications in many areas such as
lubricants, plasticisers, coating material,
catalyst carriers for refineries, emission control,
absorption and chemical reactions.
The pilot units assist in a fast introduction of
new products or processes as well as trouble
shooting on the plant
